Developing Climate Resilience in Aridlands Using Rock Detention Structures as Green Infrastructure

چکیده

The potential of ecological restoration and green infrastructure has been long suggested in the literature as adaptation strategies for a changing climate, with an emphasis on revegetation and, more recently, carbon sequestration stormwater management. Tree planting “natural” detention structures such bioswales, basins, sediment traps are popular approaches. However, experimental verification performance these investments is scarce does not address rock specifically. This 3-year study investigates infiltration, peak flow mitigation, microclimate natural wash retention installation using one-rock dams urban park Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Field data collected during do depict change hydrogeomorphology. hydrologic modeling, from field, portrays decreases flows increases infiltration at treated sites. Additionally, we observe lengthening cooling effects following rainfall events, compared untreated In this arid land setting, prospect that themselves could reduce warming or heat promising.

Spatial planning for multifunctional green infrastructure: Growing resilience in Detroit

Cities are expanding green infrastructure to enhance resilience and ecosystem services. Although green infrastructure is promoted for its multifunctionality, projects are typically sited based on a particular benefit, such as stormwater abatement, rather than a suite of socio-economic and environmental benefits. This stems in part from the lack of stakeholder-informed, city-scale approaches to ...

Developing Grid Based Infrastructure for Climate Modeling

In this paper we discuss the development of a high performance climate modeling system as an example of the application of Grid based technology to climate modeling. The climate simulation system at Argonne currently includes a scientific modeling interface (Espresso) written in Java which incorporates Globus middleware to facilitate climate simulations on the Grid. The climate modeling system ...

Climate Resilience and Economic Growth in Developing Countries

Background note The OECD is developing guidance to support governments and development partners in integrating climate change adaptation into their development strategies. To inform the development of that guidance, the OECD is coordinating two country case studies (Ethiopia and Colombia) and an Expert Workshop on " Climate Resilience and Economic Growth in Developing Countries " that will be h...

Spatial Climate Justice and Green Infrastructure Assessment : A case

Green infrastructure serves as a critical no-regret strategy to address climate change mitigation and adaptation in climate action plans. Climate justice refers to the distribution of climate change-induced environmental hazards (e.g., increased frequency and intensity of floods) among socially vulnerable groups. Yet no index has addressed both climate justice and green infrastructure planning ...

Developing a sustainability indicator set for measuring green infrastructure performance

An urban ecosystem is a dynamic system. Therefore, regular monitoring through the use of measurable indicators will enable an assessment of performance and effectiveness. This paper presents a conceptual framework to facilitate the development of an inclusive model for the sustainability assessment of green infrastructure. The framework focuses on key interactions between human health, ecosyste...
